Annotated Bibliographies help writers in several ways.  First, they are an accurate report on sources that have been carefully read.  Second, they simplify the citation process.  Consult the Purdue OWL's useful introduction to this tool. A complete annotated bibliographic entry incudes the following:

General Information

     •     The name of the search engine or database used to discover the source

     •     The search terms used to discover the source

     •     A complete citation in the format required for the paper

Body

     •     An accurate summary of the source

     •     An assessment of the source’s claims, evidence, and the importance of the piece.

     •     A reflection on the the way that the source might be useful to your paper
